Ingredients

  • 320 g puff pastry
  • 50 g fresh basil
  • 75 g pine nuts
  • 50 g Parmesan cheese (finely grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 100 ml extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper

Method

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Make the pesto: blend the basil, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, and pine nuts (reserve 2 tablespoons for garnish) into a coarse paste. Add the olive oil and blend to your desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.

  2. 2

Unfold the puff pastry and place it on a work surface. Spread the pesto evenly over the entire surface of the pastry.

  3. 3

Cut the puff pastry into strips about 1 cm wide and 10 cm long. Gently twist each strip once or twice to create a nice spiral effect.

  4. 4

Place the twists on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Sprinkle with the reserved pine nuts.

  5. 5

Bake in the oven at 200°C for 14-18 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

Let the twists cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet, then carefully transfer to a serving plate.

  7. 7

Serve warm or at room temperature as a festive appetizer alongside your Christmas dinner!
